Filmmaker Hsiang-Hsiu Lee follows Mei-Hsiu Hwang, head of the Institute of Wildlife Conservation and affectionately nicknamed ‘Mother Black Bear’, and Yuan-Yuan Lin, an indigenous Bunun mountain ranger. The two develop a deep companionship whilst gathering research data on black bears. Discover the secret of the Formosan black bear in this beautiful documentary set amidst the mountain ranges of Dafen, Taiwan. “The film was an accumulation of sweat and tears as well as a ruthless ordeal,” says director Lee. The result is a poetic film exploring the beautiful connection between nature and humanity.
故事從1998年回顧起,一位動物保育學家與一位布農族獵人,為了對珍貴稀有的台灣黑熊物種進行學術研究,前往玉山國家公園中號稱「有熊國」的大分地區,展開了一段深刻且令人著迷的探索。紀錄片中匯集了台灣山區珍貴且豐富的野生動物生態,以及許多原住民的人文色彩,更是揭開了野生台灣黑熊的神秘面紗,以及目前黑熊保育的現狀與困境。 此生態尋熊之路,更是探討了動物保育學家黃美秀以及布農族獵人之間,共同對於大自然熱愛與尊敬,並更加認識原住民與生態共存的長年智慧,同時也體認到生命的脆弱,而兩人也因在此蠻荒之境中,建立起了深厚的革命情誼。
