Director Hsiao Ya-Chuan 蕭雅全導演
Born in 1967, Hsiao Ya-Chuan began making short films at 21 before entering the advertising industry. In the late eighties, he was asked to shoot a music video by fellow filmmaker Hou Hsiao-Hsien (The Assassin, Millennium Mambo), sparking a lifelong friendship. Hsiao served as Hou’s assistant director for Flowers of Shanghai (1998) and later directed his own first feature, Mirror Image (2000), which enjoyed a successful international festival tour, including in Cannes, Torino, and Vancouver. His second feature, Taipei Exchanges (2010), won the Audience Choice and Best Music awards at the Taipei Film Awards 2010, among other honours. He directed a segment of 10+10, which was selected for Panorama at Berlinale 2012. His third feature, Father to Son (2018), won the Big Screen Award at the International Film Festival Rotterdam 2018. Old Fox is Hsiao’s latest feature.
